Ethiopian reggae

There's only a few languages that make me feel like they're somewhere in me, buried deeply and flowing in my blood. Unexplainable, but true. Amharic is one of them.

Talk to me

The only way not to fuck up a cover of one of the best songs ever is to do it quite differently. You're all entitled to a divergent opinion, but to me this one is just... good :)

Cathedral Song by Tanita Tikaram on Grooveshark

Thanks to Radio PiN for bringing this back!

Mad World

One year ago I had no idea you existed and you had no idea I existed.
Then we found out.
Today is your birthday and I can only send warm thoughts from a distance.
Be happy.

Plus another little gift:

The Man and his Guitar

Keep it plain. Keep it simple. Just the man and his guitar (and ok, sometimes a harmonica or a band ;).
Pretty mainstream, these two men full of music passion. Even though defined as "indie" or "alternative". But yeah - in these noisy times "just" singing and playing and keeping it simple is pretty alternative.

Meet Mr. Jack Johnson. An eco-surfer guy who records his albums on solar energy only.

Meet Mr. Charlie Winston. A charming folky hobo.

Tonight I can J Walk carelessly

Tearaway by J-Walk on Grooveshark

The Wasp by J-Walk on Grooveshark

'Soul vibration' is the best known one and it's awesome, but I also found great pleasure in listening to 'The Wasp'. Push repeat and it will take you on an endless journey. Never really liked long ones until somebody showed me that with a good piece one rule works - the longer, the better.
Different style, but has drawn me into an oblivious state of mind levitation. Lovely prelude to next week's Portico Quartet's concert!

Have you already met One Self?

If not, here it is. A mix of cultures with a really cool feel and lyrics. Ninja Tune is usually
a safe bet :)

Letting out outletting

The reunited colours of Fossil. Freezing outside, but the colours in my wardrobe are vividly screaming.
This March yellowish-limey shades are definitely IN in M's outfits.
Trying to let you in on those is frustrating when I am using the simple Coolpix camera, which doesn't do those colours justice, but soon, very very soon, more shoots to come by my dear photographer-friend!

Wore my banana yellow/corn jeans-leggings with this Fossil-tunic and a coral/salmon loose cardigan along with the amazing
El Naturalista boots to good friends' house-warming party tonight.

Kasia sent me this when I was in Brussels about two weeks ago:

This fruity colour mix deserves to float in Sarah's light girly music.

So sit on top of the world and tell me how you're feeling

And an all-time favourite by Dido. Takes me back to a very distant moment in time, nearly 11 years ago, in Prague. Remember to turn the volume up, especially when the beat is entering!

I've still got sand in my shoes

From "Life for Rent" by Dido. This album came out when I was on Erasmus in Belgium. The cd arrived in a package sent along with extra clothes and made me feel like home. It takes me back to that feeling. Exploring, mixing cultures, being. By myself. And with people.

Touching beauty

Love Thy Neighbour, the closest one. You.

Imagine that you yourself are your own Valentine's Day date. How does it feel? Do you like the way you act, the way you are? The way you look? Now wish yourself the most beautiful date and get ready. And don't forget to take lots of love with you :)

The four letter word

And totally accidentally I stumbled upon a Surinamese-Dutch artist who records for Blue Note!
What are the odds? ;)

It Don't Mean A Thing...

As I am getting closer to showing the world what my idea of fashion is about, for the time being through what others have created and by putting different parts of outfit together, I am also trying to get to know music from underneath. So that what I had done numerous times before - resuscitating parties in agony to the point when everyone gets up and is more than eager to jump and rock, becomes something more. Maybe not a way of life, but an exciting addition to other things I do.
To get there I need to see how things work, what BPM is, keynote, etc.
I guess there are people who just know. I don't, however I got that swing, I suppose. I got the rhythm.
So just one  obstacle to overcome - all that tech stuff.

Nneka

For the girl with tears in her eyes on the subway tonight.

I didn't want to intrude, so I didn't say it out loud, but I was looking back at her while taking the escalator and thinking "out loud": "Everything is going to be alright".

Silky Yael Naïm

Who's ever heard of mango tango, Bulgarian rose or cerulean?
High time to get educated! I can perfectly express myself describing colours in my mother language, but now that I am trying to have words stand in for visual aids where colours would not only be perceived by the sense of sight, but also nearly tactile, I am at a loss to find the right ones. And no, I am not suffering from synesthesia. But colours live in my mind as if they're truly tangible, not merely visible.

For now I will need this at hand:

"Toxic" by Yael Naïm is bottle green & dark salmon silk. Picture this. Feel it and hear her voice spread the silk in the scenery of your mind.

Some music just goes perfectly with certain aesthetics. There is a reason why experts select musical entourage for a fashion show. Why a fashion show might get a completely different reception when accompanied by tasteful music which reflects the concept of the designer.

I am not a fashion designer although the way I dress is one of the essential elements to define how I address the world. Hence the colours I chose, the styles I wear, are blended in a subjective harmony. I am no musician either. But the same way I love to pick what designers have come up with, I like to live with a lot of different kinds of music every day.

The only natural consequence that could come out of the two, is what I would like to make this blog about. My idea of fashion plus the music that would go perfectly with it. That I would like to listen to while looking or wearing. So far others are the artists to design the clothes and the music in my life.

So I take what I think is best available, mix & blend it for my own and hopefully others' pleasure. Starting merely with music. Soon both to be seen and heard! Photos of how and what I like to wear, what inspires me and might inspire you too. With customized soundtracks.
